The project highlighted here represents the fabrication of various steel beams and columns for 11 buildings on a sprawling High School campus in DeKalb, Illinois. With over 49 years experience supplying structural steel to building sites, Superior Structural Corporation was pleased to take on the challenge, seamlessly absorbing this job into our list of ongoing projects.

Beam and column production took place at our state of the art, 28,000 square foot facility where we started with ASTM A500 grade steel tube and ASTM A36/A572/A992 grade wide flange beams in raw form. A number of processes and equipment were employed to accurately manufacture the components, both in-house and on site. We provided steel members in an array of heights, weights, and lengths, including 987 tons of wide flange beams; heavy duty wide flange beams in sizes such as W 12×120 and W 21×101; square tube steel 5″x5″ and 6″x6″ among other sizes. In addition, we also provided rectangular tube steel including 16″x12″, 20″x4″ and many more. All steel members were treated before installation; prime painted gray or hot dip galvanizing where appropriate.

The scale of this project was extensive, with complex manufacturing, delivery, and installation details to manage. The construction of these buildings took place in phases from July 2009 through April 2011, and typifies the areas where Superior Structural excels. We were able to meet customer specifications, working under a demanding schedule while maintaining full compliance with standards such as American Welding Standards, the American Institute of Steel Construction Code of Standard Practices, and the Steel Joist Institute and Steel Deck Institute.
